Cuppy Cakes

I made some cupcakes for a bake sale today! I baked em in some cute lil “patty pans” that my friend brought me back from Australia- Aren’t they the cutest???

This pretty cupcake needed something equally as pretty to sit on. So I made a little stand out of an Ikea plate and a glass candle holder I got from Value Village. I used some E6000 to stick em together- and there is the easiest, cutest stand that 2 dollars and 3 minutes of hard work can get you!

The funds made from the bake sale are going towards trying to bring this to Victoria to help raise awareness and abolish human trafficking .

Well that was a boring/serious  post… I will make up for it with an awesome Valentine’s day tutorial about bacon roses … and this link to Buttercream Couture- She makes THE PRETTIEST cuppy cakes and wedding cakes and cookies you have ever seen 🙂

Perogie Time!

Wanna know my fave food? Of course you do. My fave thing to eat is perogies. But not just any perogies!

Yam, bacon, and onion perogies! Shockingly delicious. And dairy-free. (I have a terrible disability. Touchy subject, thanks for bringing it up.)

Combine a big old baked (microwaved) yam with a bunch of green onions, a blob of margarine butter, some salt and pepper, and around 8 “rashers” of bacon. (I hate that word. I don’t know why.) (I make these without the bacon frequently and they are still totally delicious- so this would make a perfect vegetarian perogie!)

Next, make this perogie dough recipe. I triple it cuz thats how I roll. Let it sit for at least half an hour, then rollllll it into 9inch-ish round-ish rounds.

Then break out your HUNKY BILLS LITTLE PEROGIE MAKER!!! Pipe or spoon the filling into the little spots where filling goes.

If you don’t have one of these incredible inventions, Babi will explain how to make these the old-fashioned way. But, seriously, I have two- you can borrow one of mine.

Loooook at those lil buddies.

And now you get to ingest them. I like em boiled, but if you are like my hubby, you’ll like em fried…

…in bacon fat, with sour cream and cheese. On a rectangle plate.

Now if you wanna freeze these bad boys, just dust em with flour and freeze them on trays. After they are frozen, you can stick em in a freezer bag and treat them just like you would treat the Cheemo variety, but with more respect. And chivalry. When is the last time you opened the freezer door for a perogie, hmm?

There is a very large cow’s heart under those perogies. (And I love how that’s actually true.)

Now give em to yer  Valentine. My Valentine is Paola.

This dough/method is really versatile- put whatever you want in these bad boys! Potato and cheddar, sauerkraut and sausage, banana peel and haggis, whatever floats yer boat!

Well, that’s all for today. And now I’m going to take this opportunity to…

Cheerio nose!!!

Valentine’s Day Crayons (Recycled Crayon Hearts)

What do ya do when you have a bunch of old, yucky crayons and an anti-typical-Valentine’s Day card issue? READ ON! (And warning, this tutorial contains nudity… the safe for work kind… cuz why not?)

I got the idea for this nifty craft from this link here. And that gal got it from this gal here. And that guy got it from here. And I planted the idea in Martha’s brain in the first place, SO PLEASE disregard those credits.

I bet these look like normal crayons to you. Well, que the hip hop music, cuz it’s gettin’ hot in here…

Uh. Oh.

AAaaand moving on.

After your crayons have undressed themselves, you wanna chop those creeps up good.

And put em in their place. This place would be an Ikea ice cube tray I got from a thrift store for a buck. I have a star one too, but I’ll save that one for Independence Day.

Next, send em to the microwave for a few minutes, checking them out every 30 seconds or so. (I should mention- this tray was designed to be used only with water and not wax or heat. Meh.)

Cute. Now, stick em in the fridge for half an hour.

Pop them out of the tray when they are cooled, and you have super fun crayons!

Note: Crayola all the way. Don’t use cheap crayons. Don’t buy cheap crayons. If someone gives you a pack of cheap crayons, throw them away. Or at least make them into a colorless, ugly candle and give it to someone you hate.

Cute, huh??? These should make up for the fact that my daughter’s show-and-tell day is on Valentine’s Day and she happens to be bringing a gigantic cow heart.

OOooOoooh! Bonus craft pic while I’m here:

My kids played with this all day! Squirt some paint into a ziplock bag, let the air out, and seal! Easy, fun, and clean! I even got distracted for over an hour by making patterns.

Happy almost February 14th! Keep checking back cuz I have a very bacon-y Valentines Day tutorial coming up 😉
